The Northland College LumberJack hockey team got their first win of the season tonight, defeating the Concordia Falcons 5-2.
Kyle Smythe (Round Lake, Ill.) scored two goals and had an assist to lead the Jacks to the win. In a game that was very physical with over 30 penalties, the Jacks got on the scoreboard first and never looked back.
Jeff Diehl (Dacula, GA) scored his third goal of the season for Northland. Sophomore
Daniel McIntosh (Calgary, AB) was big in net for the Jacks stopping 24 Falcon shots. The Jacks took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. The Falcons would get to within one, as they scored the only goal of the second period to make it 3-2 after two. Northland would add two unaswered insurance goals to give them the 5-2 victory. This game had 6 game-misconducts, 4 players will be disqualified for tomorrow's game. With the win the Jacks move to 1-5-0 overall, and 1-2-0 in the MCHA. The Falcons fall to 0-4-0, 0-3-0 in the MCHA. This game will set up an exciting re-match tomorrow afternoon at the Bay Area Civic Center with the puck dropping at 4:05 PM.
