Jills lose to Chapman
Box Score
The Jills faced Chapman University on Wednesday night and dropped a 70-50 decision.  Northland played a great first half, trailing just 27-25 with two minutes to play, but the relentless pressure of Chapman forced Northland into 22 second half turnovers as Northland dropped to 2-4 on the season.

After a quick 7-0 Chapman start, the Jills adjusted quickly and eventually took an 8-7 lead.  Northland kept the game either tied or down by less than three for most of the first half, but gave up the final six points of the first stanza as they had five consecutive turnovers to allow Chapman to take a 33-25 halftime lead.  "I was pleased with the first half except for the final two minutes," said Head Coach Dan Roiger.  "I thought we played really hard and stayed within our game plan."

The second half beginning was not impressive for the Jills.  Northland started off with a stop, but had three consecutive turnovers that allowed Chapman to score seven points and grab a 40-25 lead.  Northland scored after a timeout, but then gave up 12 points in a row as the Jills failed to get it across half court in five of the next six possessions.  "They are so quick compared to us," said Coach Roiger.  "No matter where we turned, they were there.  That forced us to lose our composure and then we got out of our game plan.  Once we played the style Chapman wanted, it snowballed on us and quickly got out of control."

Northland held Nicole Hayman to just 13 points, 8 below her season average, but the Chapman guards put on a display of full-court pressure and layups led by Linda Ly, who scored a season high 20 points on 8 of 11 shooting.  Northland shot 41% from the field, and outrebounded the Panthers 41-35, but had 36 total turnovers, 22 in the second half.  Northland was led by freshman Maria Mackey (Holmen, WI) who was 2 of 2 from the arc and 3 of 4 overall for her team high nine points, and she also added two assists.  Lindsey Hamm (Jr., Ontonagon, MI) added eight points while Chelsea Lundgren (Jr., Crosby, MN) added seven.  Sophomore Laura Fisher (Green Bay, WI) had 11 rebounds for the Jills.

Northland plays at the Posada Royale Tournament at Cal Luther University on Saturday and Sunday, with both games beginning at 7 pm CST.  Each game will be broadcast live on the Webcast.
