Northland College LumberJacks and LumberJills competed this weekend at the Wisconsin Private College Cross-country Championships in Ripon, Wisconsin. This was their fourth race of the season. 12 teams raced on the men’s side and 15 teams on the women’s side.
The winning team on the men’s side was Ripon College. They finished with 37 team points, but the Northland Lumberjacks finished strong in 9th place with a score of 249. The overall winner was Andrew Ashenden from Concordia University, running a time of 25:31. Northland’s team was led by first year runner Joe Zant with a time of 28:38. This was a season best for Zant, besting his time by over a minute. Finishing second and third for the team were seniors Bryce Henry and Christopher Goscinak. Henry ran a season best at 29:25, and Goscinak ran a personal best of 29:41. The surprise of the race came from first year runner John Grunde who had his personal best time by over two minutes with a time of 30:48. “I felt really good today, and I could really see the effects of our training” said John after the race. Rounding out the top five was junior transfer Tom Lamppa, with a personal best time of 31:06. Finishing out the men’s team was first year Kelsey Barra with a time of 31:54, sophomore Noel Cockney at 32:14, sophomore Jared Ursin at 33:00, senior Kevin Robertson at 33:35, and first year Eliot Frost with a time of 38:51. Overall this one was of the Lumberjacks best races of the season. Next up for the Lumberjacks is their conference meet at Crown College, which will be on October 31st.
After a day of many season and personal bests, the Northland runners continue to work hard, train hard, and prepare to make a run at the Conference title. Results
