October 31st, 2009 – Northland LumberJacks competed in the UMAC Conference Championships this weekend at Crown College in Waconia, Minnesota. On a day of cold windy, and muddy conditions the Lumberjacks ran hard and took 6th out of a nine team race. This year’s conference champion team was the College of St. Scholastica with a team score of 68. The individual champion was Daniel Bare from North Central College, running a time of 27:31. The Lumberjacks first runner was freshman sensation Joe Zant. Nearly missing All-conference, Joe finished 18th with a time of 29:42. Coming in second for the Lumberjacks was senior Bryce Henry with a time of 30:00. Another great performance was from senior Chris Goscinak with a time of 30:27. “It was great to see how well everyone ran today,” said Goscinak. “Our hard work has been showing every week, and I know we are all really excited to see what happens in two weeks at the region meet.” Finishing out the top five were freshman Kelsey Barra in a time of 30:42, and John Grunde with a time of 31:16. Unlike most, Barra turned in a personal best time by almost a minute. Junior transfer Tom Lamppa finished sixth with a time of 32:09 and placing seventh of the team was sophomore Jared Ursin with a time of 34:37. To finish up for the Lumberjacks was Kevin Robertson (34:45), Eliot Frost (37:12), and Nate Leurquin (41:26).

All in all, after a day of tough conditions, the Northland Lumberjacks ran hard and fast and continue to do so to get ready for their Region meet in two weeks in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
