October 31st, 2009 – Northland LumberJacks competed in the UMAC Conference Championships this weekend at Crown College in Waconia, Minnesota.  On a day of cold windy, and muddy conditions the Lumberjacks ran hard and took 6th out of a nine team race.  This year’s conference champion team was the College of St. Scholastica with a team score of 68.  The individual champion was Daniel Bare from North Central College, running a time of 27:31.  The Lumberjacks first runner was freshman sensation Joe Zant.  Nearly missing All-conference, Joe finished 18th with a time of 29:42.  Coming in second for the Lumberjacks was senior Bryce Henry with a time of 30:00.  Another great performance was from senior Chris Goscinak with a time of 30:27.  “It was great to see how well everyone ran today,” said Goscinak.  “Our hard work has been showing every week, and I know we are all really excited to see what happens in two weeks at the region meet.”  Finishing out the top five were freshman Kelsey Barra in a time of 30:42, and John Grunde with a time of 31:16.  Unlike most, Barra turned in a personal best time by almost a minute.  Junior transfer Tom Lamppa finished sixth with a time of 32:09 and placing seventh of the team was sophomore Jared Ursin with a time of 34:37.  To finish up for the Lumberjacks was Kevin Robertson (34:45), Eliot Frost (37:12), and  Nate Leurquin (41:26).

 Results

All in all, after a day of tough conditions, the Northland Lumberjacks ran hard and fast and continue to do so to get ready for their Region meet in two weeks in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
