October 31st, 2009 – The Northland LumberJills competed in the UMAC Conference Championships this weekend at Crown College in Waconia, Minnesota. The weather was quite cold, windy, and muddy, but despite that the LumberJills took 5th out of a 8 team race. This year’s conference team champion was the College of St. Scholastica with a team score of 31. This year’s individual champion was Linda Keller from University of Minnesota-Morris, running a time of 23:04. Northland’s top runner all season has been freshman Hannah Fanney. Once again Fanney turned in a great time and took 7th overall earning her an All-conference award. She was the only Northland runner to take such honors. Fanney turned in a time of 25:09. “She got out strong and ran with a large group through the first two miles, holding to about 17th place, then on the third mile she surged ahead of all of them into 7th place. It was a smart and tough race for her and she received a well earned All-Conference award for her efforts” said Head Coach Dave Beeksma.
