Northland Nordic Ski Team races at Camp Ripley.
The Northland women’s and men’s Nordic Ski Teams competed in the 3rd CCSA qualifier meet this past weekend at Camp Ripley, MN. Junior Christopher Goscinak led the Jack’s in Saturday’s men’s 10K classic race with a 50th place finish in 32:44. Freshman Noel Cockney finish in 54th place in 33:53, Sophomore Kevin Robertson finished in 59th place in 39:08, and Sophomore Nate Leurquin finished in 60th place in 43:04. Oskar Lund of Michigan Tech won the men’s race with a time of 25:02. In Sunday’s 20K Freestyle race, Cockney edged out Goscinak by eight seconds for 56th place. Cockney’s time was 1:01:04 and Goscinak’s time was 1:01:12. Robertson finished in 59th with a time of 1:04:34 and Leurquin finished in 60th place with a time of 1:10:34. Martin Banerud of Northern Michigan University won the race with a time of 46:43.
On the Women’s side of the competition, Northland was led by Freshman Erin Blow who completed Saturday’s 5K classic race with a time of 19:24, good for 46th place. Blow was followed by fellow freshman Anna Rix who finished in 20:46 for 56th place. Marie Helen Soderman of Northern Michigan University won the women’s classic race with a time of 15:15. On Sunday the women competed in a 15K Freestyle race with Blow finishing 47th with a time of 50:11 and Rix finishing 57th with a time of 55:54. US Ski Team member, Caitlin Compton, won the women’s race with a time of 41:55. Laura Dewitt of Northern Michigan University was the first CCSA skiers across the line in a time of 42:32.
The Northland Nordic team resumes finishes out their season in two weeks at the CCSA region meet hosted by Michigan Tech University in Houghton, MI.
