Game One Box Score
The LumberJills came up one game short of going 6-0 this week splitting with Martin Luther College on Friday. Northland won the first game 6-5 and dropped the nightcap 5-3.
In the first game the LumberJills scored four runs in the bottom of the first for the third straight game. Brittany Schmitt (Jr., Abbotsford, Wis.) led off the inning with a single, after a walk and a fielders choice, Aurora Albrecht (Sr., Cadott, Wis.) ripped a two RBI double to left center. Asia DeVlaeminck (Jr., Mankato, Minn.) followed with her own two RBI double to left center.
After picking up an unearned run in the second, Martin Luther took a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning. Starting the inning with three straight hits, followed by a LumberJill error and a sacrifce bunt netted the Knights four runs (two earned). The Jills tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when Albrecht led off the inning with a solo shot over the centerfield fence.
In the bottom of the seventh, Kylie Garing (Fr., Chimacum, Wash.) led off the inning drawing a walk. Marge Koosmann (Jr., Mellen, Wis.) singled to put runners at first and second. Following a fielder's choice, Albrecht singled to load the bases. This set up Asia DeVlaeminck's (Jr., Mankato, Minn.) game winning RBI single.
Albrecht and DeVlaeminck led the LumberJills with three hits and three RBI's each. Schmitt was the winning pitcher allowing only two earned runs on 6 hits while striking out seven.
Game Two Box Score
Martin Luther gained the split by winning the second game 5-3. The Knights jumped out to an early lead scoring two runs in the top of the first. The LumberJills picked up all of their runs in the second. Albrecht, DeVleaminck, and Chrissy Dvorscak (Sr., Whiting, Ind.) started the inning with three straight singles. Following a flyout, Shon Givens (Sr., Dallas, Texas) singled to lad the bases. Schmitt and Garing drove in runs on a sacrifice fly and single respectively.
The Knights picked up two unearned runs in the sixth with a pair of hits and two Northland errors. MLC added another unearned run in the seventh on two more Northland errors. Northland outhit the Knights 11-9 for the game. Schmitt was tabbed with the loss pitching her second complete game of the day. Garing led the Jills with four hits.
"We continued to hit the ball well today," said Head Coach Steve Wammer, "unfortunately we weren't able to complete the sweep."
Northland is back in action at LumberJill Field Tuesday with a UMAC game against the College of St. Scholastica starting at 5:00 p.m.
