The Northland College LumberJills fell to the Saints of the College of St. Scholastica 1-0 in an Upper Midwest Athletic (UMAC) game played at LumberJill Field today. The only run of the game came in the top of the second inning when Saint third baseman Theresa Tauer led off the inning with a solo home run over the right field fence. The Saints would get only two additional hits of LumberJill Pitcher Brittany Schmitt (Jr., Abbotsford, Wis.) who was tagged with the hard luck loss.
Northland managed only two hits of their own, both of Saint pitcher Kayla Jenkins who came into the game in relief of injured starter Jen Falk. Asia DeVlaeminck (Jr., Mankato, Minn.) and Shon Givens (Sr., Dallas, Texas) picked up the hits for the Jills.
"It was a great game between to rivals," stated Head Coach Steve Wammer, "both teams played well, unfortunately we couldn't pick up the run we needed."
The LumberJills are back in action when they begin a twelve game road trip on Saturday.
