The Northland College LumberJills won two Upper Midwest Athletic Conference games played in Roseville, Minn. on Tuesday. Northland topped pre-season favorite Northwestern 8-3 and beat Crown 14-0.

In the Northwestern game the LumberJills struck first scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. Marge Koosmann (Jr., Mellen, Wis.) who had singled scored on Aurora Albrecht's (Sr., Cadott, Wis.) RBI single. Northwestern tied the game in the second on a solo home run by Amanda Rodgers. In the third Northland exploded for six runs to take a 7-1 lead. The Jills batted around in the inning collecting four hits. Northwestern added their final two runs in the fourth, while the LumberJills picked up another run in the fifth.
Eight of the nine Jills starters contributed to their eleven hit attack. Led by Albrecht, Asia DeVlaeminck (Jr., Mankato, Minn.), and Shon Givens (Sr., Dallas, Texas) who each had two. Brittany Schmitt (Jr., Abbotsford, Wis.) picked up the win with a six hit effort, striking out five.

In their second game of the day the LumberJills scored fourteen runs on fifteen hits in a game shortened to five innings due to the eight run rule. All the Jills starters collected at least one hit, while Schmitt, Albrecht, DeVlaeminck, Chrissy Dvorscak (Sr., Whiting, Ind.) and Ashleigh Miller (Fr., Ashland, Wis.) had two each. Kristin Zimmer threw a one hitter, striking out four.
"We played well today," commented Head Coach Steve Wammer, "We really hit the ball."
