With their playoff hopes on the line, the Jacks scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th and then exploded for 10 runs in the 7th to beat Bethany Lutheran 15-5 today at LumberJack Field. With the win the Jacks move to 11-18 overall and 8-10 in the UMAC and still have a chance to qualify for the UMAC tournament. The Vikings got out to an early lead by scoring one it the first, and 3 in the 3rd. They would add one more in the fourth before the Jacks would get on the board with Bryce Szymanski's (Jr. Pequot Lakes, MN.) 6th homerun of the season. Northland would tie the game in the bottom of the 6th scoring four times. Matt Tanneberg (Jr. Kennewick, WA) doubled to lead off the inning. Szymanski and Chris Steiner (Sr. Auburn, WA) would follow with RBI doubles of their own. The Jacks would tie the game on a sacrifice fly by Dan Salewski (Fr. Wisconsin Rapids, WI). The bats would stay red hot for the Jacks as they scored 10 runs in the bottom of the 7th for the win. B.J. Leach (Fr. Kirkland, WA) walked to start the inning for the Jacks. Tanneberg would also walk before Szymanski would hit his second homerun of the game to give the Jacks an 8-5 advantage. The Jacks would not stop there. Steiner would get things going again with a single through the right side. The Vikings struggled to find the strike zone and walked in four runs. The final blow of the inning would come from Steiner who singled to left-center to bring home Leach and Tanneberg to give the Jacks the 15-5 win due to the UMAC 10-run mercy rule. Szymanski would finish 3-4 with 2 homeruns and 6 RBI's. Steiner had 3 hits and 3 RBI's, Leach had two hits with an RBI, Tanneberg had two hits and an RBI, and Dan Salewski had a hit and 2 RBI's to the lead the Jacks. Northland will look to keep their playoff hope alive tomorrow as they will take on Bethany again for a double-header starting at 12:00pm at LumberJack Field.
