Northland College

The Northland College Baseball team had four players honored by the UMAC for their play during the 2009 season.  Senior Chris Steiner was named to the first team along with Juniors Matt Tanneberg and Bryce Szymanski.  Freshmen B.J. Leach was named Rookie of the Year and was an all-conference honorable mention.

Steiner, a senior from Auburn Washington hit .470 overall and led the UMAC with a .551 average during conference play.  He led the Jacks in hits with 54, RBI's with 45 and total bases with 76.  He was also very steady in the field anchoring the Shortstop position for Northland recording only 6 errors on the season.  

Tanneberg, a junior from Kennewick, Washington hit .443 overall and led the Jacks with 16 doubles.  Tanneberg hit .406 in UMAC play with 17 of his 20 RBI's coming against UMAC opponents.  He also led Northland with a .582 on base percentage.  Tanneberg was also named Midwest 3rd Team All-Region.

Szymanski, a junior from Pequot Lakes, Minnesota help lead the Jacks at the plate and on the mound.  He hit .402 overall, .431 in UMAC play.  He led the Jacks with 7 homeruns and was second with 38 RBI's.  He slugged .736 to lead Northland.  On the mound he went 4-5 with a team leading 5.84 ERA.  He had 5 complete games striking out 33 batters on the year.

Leach, a freshmen from Kirkland, Washington had an outstanding year at the plate and on the mound for Northland.  Leach also showed versitlity playing in all 9 positions this season for Northland recording only 2 errors on the season.  He hit .386 overall and was second on the team in hits with 49.  He had 8 doubles and 16 RBI's.  He hit .432 in UMAC play.  On the mound, Leach went 4-5 leading the Jacks in innings pitched with 70.2 and strikeouts with 34.  He also led the UMAC with 51 innings pitched, and was second in appearances with 10.
