Northland College Director of Athletics Steve Wammer announced today that head Women’s Basketball Coach Dan Roiger has resigned to accept a similar position at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y.  Roiger coached five seasons at Northland, coming to Ashland from Carlton College where he served as an assistant coach.

“Although we are disappointed to see Coach Roiger leave, we wish him well in his new position,” commented Wammer.  “Dan has done an outstanding job of leading the LumberJill program.”

Roiger took over the Northland College program in 2004 after serving as an assistant at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.  In his five seasons he posted a .786 winning percentage in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) and was twice named Coach of the Year.  This past season the LumberJills captured both the UMAC regular season and tournament championship.

“I have had a fantastic time at Northland College.  I have been very fortunate to coach the players I have had, and feel very good about the success we have had on the court, in the classroom, and as community members of the College.  I feel like I am leaving the program in excellent shape, and know that the Jills will have continued success into the future.”  Roiger commented.  ”I want to thank Northland College for the opportunity to coach their women’s basketball team and be part of the campus community.  It is a special place and I will have fond memories of my time here.”

A national search for a new coach will begin immediately according to Wammer.  “We are confident that we will bring a great coach to Northland to lead our outstanding program.”
