the LumberJacks opened their 2009 campaign in style with solid early season races last Tuesday in the Northland Invitational.  The Jack's were led by fristyear Joe  Zant who finished 12th in a time of 30:35.  Zant was followed by fellow firstyear Kelsey Barra who crossed the finish line in 18th with a time of 31:36.  Seniors Bryce Henry and Christopher Goscinak finished in 31:54 and 34:33 respectively while transfer Tom Lampa finished the scoring with a time of 34:47.

"All of our men ran well today.  We are particularly excited about what Joe and Kelsey did today, what fun to see them led out the rest of the team this early in the season!"  states head coach Dave Beeksma, "We are looking like a fairly competitive UMAC team this year once a few of the runners get a little more fit."

Sophomore Noel  Cockney (35:03) and Firstyear John Grunde (36:02) were the next to finish the race for Northland.  "Noel and John had slow starts today, but they both have the talent to be right up with the rest of the top five.  They give us a solid top seven runners."  Comments Beeksma.

Junior Kevin Robertson (37:47), and sophomores Nate Leurquin (38:23) and Jared Ursin (39:41) also competed for the Jack's.

Gustavus  Adolphus won the men's race with a score of 20.  The Jack's finished 4th with a score of 96.  mark Hartman of Gustavus won the race with a time of 27:52.

The Jack's are in action again on Saturday, Sept. 12th at the Crown College Invitational.
