The Northland College LumberJacks found the net early, but were unable to score again as the St. Scholastica Saints used big second and third periods to put the game away. Northland (2-11-0, 2-6-0 MCHA) was out shot 48-14 on the night. St. Scholastica (11-2-2, 5-1-2 NCHA) scored six goals in a four minute stretch during the third period to shut down any chance of a late comeback.
The LumberJacks got on the board within the first three minutes of the game, as Kraig Wright (Fr./Corunna, Ont.) scored his sixth goal of the season. Colin McIntosh (So./Calgary, Alb.) and Matt Tanneberg (Sr./Kennewick, Wash.) added assists on the play. The Saints scored nearly ten minutes later to even it up. Kyle Finch (So./Peterborogh, Ont.) got the start between the pipes for the Jacks, and made 11 saves in the first period to keep it tied. Finch finished the night with 32 saves.
The Saints scored six minutes into the second period and never looked back. When it was all said and done they had scored thirteen unanswered goals in the rout. Brennan Poderzay started in the net for St. Scholastica and picked up the win after making 13 saves.
The Jacks will resume conference play this weekend against Marian University. The first game is set for Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the Bay Area Civic Center.
