Box Score
The LumberJills fell to the Carthage College Lady Reds 73-60 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament Friday night at UW-Whitewater. The Lady Reds move onto the regional championship game Saturday night with the win. The Jills finish their impressive season with an overall record of 18-9.
Neither team would take a large lead the first ten minutes of the game. The Jills and Lady Reds fought back and forth until half way through the second when the Lady Reds would build their lead to 8 after Rosie Dorn made a 3 pointer, one of seven the Lady Reds made in the first half. Carthage would go on a 19-5 run in the last four minutes of the half to build their lead to 47-28. The Lady Reds shot 70 percent from beyond the arc and during the half and 60 percent from the floor overall.
The second half was a different story as the LumberJills let the Lady Rebels know they would not go quietly out of this tournament. The Jills stepped up their defense to fight their way back in the game. The Jills would get the Lady Rebels lead down to 11 with 4:28 to go in the game after
Laura Fisher (Jr. Green Bay, Wis.) made a pair of free-throws. The Jills would get the lead down to less than 10 after
Chelsea Lundgren (Sr. Crosby, Minn.) made a layup with 2:48 left. That would be as close as the Jills would get as the Lady Rebels would respond with 4 points to put the lead back to 13 and end with the 73-60 final.
The Jills were led in scoring by
Lindsey Hamm (Sr. Ontonagon, Mich.) with 14 points. Lundgren added 10 points and 4 rebounds and Fisher chipped in with 9 points and 8 rebounds off the bench.
