Northland College split a Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) doubleheader with UM-Morris on a day that Senior Brittany Schmitt became the first LumberJill to record 500 career strikeouts. The Jills won the first game 11-3 and lost the nightcap 4-6.
The opening game was close initally, with both teams scoring a pair of runs in the first inning. However in the bottom of the fifth the LumberJills scored four runs and added five more in te bottom of the sixth. Brittany Schmitt, Kylie Garing, and Amanda Seely had two hits each as eight of nine starters picked up at least one hit. Seely, who had three RBI, and Asia DeVlaeminck both ripped home runs for the Jills.
Schmitt picked up the win scattering five hits and allowing no earned runs.
In the second game, although they picked up 10 hits, Northland was only able to manage four runs. Sam Bona, Marge Koosmann, Becca Ristau, and Ashleigh Miller each garnered a pair of hits. In the top of the seventh Schmitt ended the inning with a strikeout of Ashley Splonskowski. With the strikeout Schmitt became the first LumberJill to record 500 career K's. The Jills threatened in the bottom of the inning loading the bases, but were unable to push across any runs.
Northland is now 6-7 in UMAC play.
