The LumberJacks beat the Northwestern Eagles 6-4 in their last home contest of the season. The win improves the Jacks to 10-27 overall on the season and 6-15 in the UMAC. The Jacks got on the scoreboard early and were able to overcome a late rally by the Eagles for the win. Senior Josh Spiegel picked up his first collegiate win in relief of Shane Buckley who went 6 innings for the Jacks.
The Jacks scored two runs in the first inning to grab the early lead. Peter Aerts led off the inning with a double down the right field line. Bryce Szymanski followed Aerts with a double of his own for the first Jacks run. Ryan Johnson then brought home Szymanski with a single through the right side. Northland would get another run in the third thanks again to an RBI single by Johnson. Matt Tanneberg scored on the play to bring the Jacks leads to 3-0. The Eagles would make it 3-1 before Northland would go back up by three with another run in the 5th. Johnson would once again be in the mix for the Jacks as he reached on a two single. Jeremy Snow then brought him home with an RBI double down the left field line. The score would remain 4-1 until the top of the 7th inning. The Eagles would rally to score three runs tying the score at 4 runs apiece. The lead would not last long as the Jacks scored a run in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-4 lead. Tanneberg and Cody Carroll would single to start the inning. Jeremy Snow reached on an error by the third basemen to load the bases. Senior Craig Turner would then step to the plate and hit an infield single to bring home the go-ahead run. The Jacks would add an insurance run in the 8th on a single by Carroll. Bryce Szymanski earned the save with two innings of scoreless relief.
