The LumberJills started their season on a high note by shutting out the Finlandia Lions 4-0 in Hancock, Mich. The Jills had four different players score in the win. LumberJills goalie Jessica Jaekel made 3 saves to pick up the win.
Ashley Runge scored the first Northland goal on assists from Carrissa Steffenson and Diana Tikalsky. The goal for Runge was her first collegiate goal and came early in the second half. The Jills would add another goal scored by Sarah Weed about 8 minutes later. Picking up the assists on the goal were Melanie Rasor and Emily Knudson. Knudson would then add her goal to make the game 3-0 Jills at the 67 minute mark. Melanie Rasor would add a fourth and final goal for the Jills and it was Knudson picking up her third point in the game with the assist. The Jills will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Duluth, Minn. for a round-robin tournament at St. Scholastica. The Jills will take on UW-Stout at 12:30 p.m. They will play again on Saturday against Gustavus at 4:30 p.m. The win was also the first for Co-Head Coaches Olaf Kirsten and Anne Whititng.
