The Northland College LumberJills Cross Country team finished second out of four teams this past Wednesday at the Bethany Lutheran Invitational with a team score of 70. Gustavus Adolphus won the women’s title with a perfect score of 15. Finishing third was Martin Luther with 73 points and finishing fourth was Bethany Lutheran with 85 points. Competing without 2009 All-Conference runner, Sophomore Hannah Fanney, and a few others who are on their fall Outdoor Orientation trips, the Jills were running with the minimum of five athletes required for a team score. In spite of this, they had a great team performance. Sophomore Allissa Stutte competed her first college race in Northland’s #1 position with a time of 27:58, good for 21st place. Stutte was followed by Sophomore Katherine Boyk (24th, 28:15), Freshman Breanne Meyer (28th, 28:34), Sophomore Samantha Lucheck (30th, 29:47) and Junior Aubree Meyer (49th, 38:22). Kate Eggers of Gustavus Adolphus won the women’s title with a time of 24:12. The Jills next race will be Saturday, Sept. 11th at the Campus Quest hosted by UMD.
