Head Coach
Rob Robinson
Coach Rob Robinson is in his sixth season as Head Coach of the LumberJacks, with a goal of making strides to move the program back to the level of excellence that it had in the late 1990’s.
Coach Robinson began his coaching career at Northland in 1994 as an assistant for the men’s basketball team, helping them achieve back-to-back 19 win seasons and an appearance in the 1996 NAIA National Tournament. In 1997, he was named Head Coach of Northland’s Women’s Basketball program. Coach Robinson led the Jills to five UMAC championships and two NAIA National Tournament appearances, and was named Coach of the Year five consecutive seasons.
Coach Robinson is an Ashland native who had a successful playing career at. Mount Senario College, where he graduated in 1993. During his career, Mount Senario won 117 games including an NSCAA National Championship in 1991. Coach Robinson resides in Ashland with his wife, Diana, herself a Northland graduate, and daughters Breann (16) and Rebeka (13).
Assistant Coaches
Jason Akl
Coach Jason Akl begins his sixth season as Coach Robinson's Head Assistant. A four-year contributor for Northland from 1996-2000, Akl played guard on the LumberJacks' 1996 NAIA national tournament team. After graduating from Northland in 2000, Akl earned his Master’s Degree from Florida International University in 2002. In 2004, he returned to Ashland in 2004 to assist Robinson in rebuilding the LumberJack program. Akl is the clinical manager for The Lakes Community Health Center, a paramedic / fire fighter for the city of Ashland, as well as being a fly fishing guide and writing for Bass-Pro and ESPN Outdoors.
Ryan Tiberg
Assistant Coach Ryan Tiberg enters his fith year as the Recruiting Coordinator/Assistant Coach. A four-year starter for the LumberJacks from 2002-2005, Coach Tiberg finished his career ninth on Northland's all-time scoring list with 1,117 points, and was deadly from beyond the arc. In addition, he was named 1st Team All-UMAC his senior year. Coach Tiberg's primary responsibilities will include recruiting Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Phil Sorensen
Assistant Coach Phil Sorensen will be in his fourth season as an assistant coach for the LumberJack program. Sorenson brings a love and knowledge of the game to the team. Last season, he proved to be a valuable asset in the on the bench and on the court during practice. He is an attorney is Ashland and practices at Sorensen Law office.
