Head Coach
Steve Wammer
Steve Wammer begins his eighth year as the Head Coach of the Northland Softball program. In his first seven seasons, he has led the LumberJills to the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament Championship game four times, winning their first Tournament Championship in 2008. Wammer holds a 82-40 record in the UMAC (including tournament games) and ranks second in winning percentage in UMAC games among conference coaches over that time frame. In 2008 he was appointed to the NCAA Division III national softball committee representing the Great Lakes region.
Wammer, an Audubon, Minnesota native, is a 1986 graduate of Concordia College (Moorhead, Minn.). He was named Northland's Director of Athletics in 1999 where he has overseen the expansion of the athletic department as well as coordinated Northland's move to NCAA Division III. Wammer has the second longest tenure as an athletic director in the UMAC. He has over twenty seasons of collegiate head coaching experience in four different sports. Prior to coming to Northland he coached at McHenry County College (Crystal Lake, Ill.) where he also served as Assistant Director of Athletics & Student Activities and at UW-Barron County (Rice Lake, Wis.)
Steve and his wife Debbie, a third grade teacher, reside in Ashland with their three children, Emily (11), Samuel (11), and Jacob (11).
Assistant Coaches
Liz Constantini
Coach Liz Constantini returns to the coaching staff for her seventh year as an assistant coach. A 2000 graduate of Clarke College, Coach Constantini was a three-year starter earning NIIC All-Conference honors all three years, in addition, she was named Conference Player of the Year her junior season. Coach Constantini also set a conference record hitting three home runs in one game. "Liz has proved to be a great asset to our staff, she has a great understanding of the game and relates very well to our players," Head Coach Steve Wammer commented. Constantini currently resides in Hurley, Wisconsin where she helps operate family businesses.
Chas Johnson
Coach Chas Johnson is entering her fifth year of assisting the LumberJill's program. A 2005 Northland graduate with a degree in Education, Coach Johnson has made the transition from player to coach very well. The Bruce, Wisconsin native was primarily used as an infielder for the Jill's during her playing career, and she was named team captain her senior year. “Chas has really grown as a coach,” notes Head Coach Steve Wammer. “She is a phenomenal student of the game and has a great work ethic.” Coach Johnson, is employed in Northland’s athletic department and currently resides in Ashland.
