Where is Ashland?

With our proximity to so many natural areas, you might think it’s difficult to get here. It’s not.

Northland College is located ten blocks from Lake Superior on Chequamegon Bay in the city of Ashland, Wisconsin - home to 8,600 people. With its Main Street shops and theatre marquis, Ashland has a great small-town feel. The area is surrounded by nearly a million acres of the Chequamegon National Forest.

We’re just 70 miles from the Duluth, Minnesota airport and 40 miles from the Ironwood, Michigan airport. We're also within biking distance of Washburn, a quaint bedroom community on the other side of Chequamegon Bay, and Bayfield, a picturesque village perched on the edge of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.

Directions to Northland College

From the West 

Enter Ashland via US Hwy 2 East from Duluth, MN.  Turn right on Hwy 13 S (also called Ellis Avenue) which will be the third set of lights as you are driving through town.  Northland College will be located on your right about one mile from Lake Superior. 

From the South

Enter Ashland via US Highway 13 North from Marshfield, Medford, or Park Falls. Northland College will be located on your left within a half mile of entering Ashland.  

From the East

Enter Ashland via US Hwy 2 West from Hurley, WI and Ironwood, MI.  Turn left on Hyw 13 S (also called Ellis Avenue) which will be the second set of lights as you are driving through town.  Northland College will be located on your right about one mile from Lake Superior. 

Campus Directions to Admissions

The Admission Office is in Wakefield Hall located on Hwy 13.  It is easily identifiable.  It is a brick building about the size of a house and has four chimneys, two on each end.  Please park in the Visitor Parking Lot located adjacent to Wakefield Hall.  As you arrive to campus from the north, you will see a large building on your right, the Science Center.  Contnue past a small wooded ravine, and the next building on your right is Wakefield Hall.  If you are coming from the south, you will pass the main entrance to campus and about 200 yards further will be Wakefield Hall on your left.
