Led all season long by Sophomore, Francesca Pascale, all of the Jills produced their personal best times when it really counted.  Pascale ran the 6K course in 26:06 and was followed by First Years Bonnie Johnson (26:49), Emily Schlager (26:55), and Erin Blow (27:50).  Sophomore Cassie Bodette and First Year Lorriane Wolfe both finished in 29:44.  First Year Anna Trickey completed the team scoring with a time of 33:46.  “The team ran great today.”  States Head Coach Dave Beeksma, “I am really proud of what this young team has accomplished this year.  We were without Sophomore Captain Amanda Strick today due to an unfortunate accident last week resulting in a fractured ankle.  If Strick would have been able to run, we would have met our goal of having our top five runners all under 28 minutes this year.”  The race was run in 15-20 mile per hour winds that made the going touch when the runners had to head directly into them.  With such a young team, the future is exciting for the Jills.  “We should have our top seven back for the next two years and they will only get better over that time.”  Comments Coach Beeksma, “I can’t wait to get back at it next fall! These are fantastic young people who work very hard.”

The LumbersJills once again improved their times at the 2008 UMAC Championships.  Led by Sophomore Francesca Pascale, Northland finished 5th out of 7 teams with a score of 117, just two points out of 4th place.  As has been true all season, the Jills continued to improve their times on a very tough course.  “Times for the top runners were consistently 0:25 to 1:00 slower than previous season best times for the rest of the conference runners in the women’s race while our top four improved their times and our fifth runner ran at her season’s best.”  States Head Coach Dave Beeksma.  “ I am so proud of how our women ran.  Especially Amanda Strick who has been running with a torn meniscus in her right knee all season.  She took two minutes off her time today!”.  Pascale lead the Jills with a 17th place in a time of 26:35.  She was followed by Sophomore Strick who was 18th with a time of 26:37.  First Year’s Bonnie Johnson (23rd at 27:27), Emily Schlager (24th at 27:59), and Erin Blow (35th at 28:43) completed Northland’s scoring.  Junior Lorraine Wolfe, who is running Cross County for the first time ever, was 46th with a time of 31:12 taking over two minutes off her previous best time.  Fellow Junior, Laura Ehlen, finished in 47th place with a time of 33:17.  “Our women’s team is significantly improved over last year’s team, however the conference improved even more.”  Comments Coach Beeksma.  “At last year’s UMAC championships there were only three runners who ran a sub 26:00 6K time.  This year there were  14.”  St. Scholastica won the women’s championship with a score of 23.  The Saints were led by Junior Katelyn Meger who won the individual championship with a time of 22:58.  The Jill finish out the season in two weeks that the Midwest region championship hosted by Augustana College.
