Jills lose to Saints

Ashland, WI -

The Northland College LumberJills hosted the College of St. Scholastica Saints in a UMAC matchup at the Chapple Family Gymnasium.

The Jills got out to a quick start in set 1, quickly taking a 3-0 lead. However, the Saints would battle back and tie up the score at 6-6. After falling behind 11-7 the LumberJills fought their way back to tie up the game at 14-14. Both teams would battle for the rest of the set, but it would be Northland who would claim the set 25-22.

Set 2 would be a different story as the Jills would get off to a slow start and fall behind early. The Jills would try to chip away at the Saints lead, but would struggle to get it past the Saints defense. The Saints would claim set 2 25-17.

Both teams would battle for the lead early in set 3. Northland would begin to pull away with a 9-4 lead. However, the Saints would rally to tie the score up at 10-10. The Jills would eventually fall behind 15-13 and would be unable to regain the lead, dropping the set 25-19.

Set 4 would be a back and forth battle early on. However, the Northland offense would cool allowing the Saints the opportunity to widen their lead. The Saints would take the final set 25-16 and claim the match 3-1.

Freshman Justine Litherland led the Jills with 12 kills, while Senior Bethany Best added 11. Junior Hannah Hitchcock finished the day with 25 assists. Junior Adrianna Galtieri recorded 22 digs in the match, while Hitchcock finished with 18.

The LumberJills will be back in action on the road against St. Catherine University 10/13. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm.
