LumberJills Dominate Crown College

The Northland College volleyball team battled the Crown College Storm today. The two teams would battle back and forth all game, but it would be the LumberJills who would come out on top.

Set 1 saw Crown College jump out to a quick 2-0 lead, but the Jills would quickly tie it up. The Storm would begin to pull away with a 4 point rally to  widen their lead to 10-6, but the Jills would chip away at the lead and eventually take the lead themselves 15-14. A Jill 5 point rally later in the set would put them up 24-19. The Jills wouldn't relinquish the lead, taking the set 25-21.

Set 2 would play out similar to the first set. Both teams would trade blows throughout the set, but the LumberJills would only fall behind once in the set. With the set tied 22-22 the LumberJills would put together a 3 point rally and take the set 25-22.

In what would be the final set of the match the LumberJill offense would get started early, as Northland climbed out to an immediate 4-0 lead. Crown would go on to put together a 3 point rally of their own to cut the Jills' lead down to one. However, the Jills offensive attack would continue for the rest of the set, but the Storm wouldn't give in. As they would keep Northland within reach, but that wouldn't be enough as the LumberJills would claim the set 25-22 and take the match 3-0.

Senior Bethany Best led the Jills in kills with 11, while Freshman Justine Litherland would record 10. Junior Hannah Hitchcock finished the day with 28 assists, while Junior Adrianna Galtieri led the team with 21 digs.

"The team played very well against Crown and even improved from the first time we played them this season" commented Head Coach Kim Falkenhagen. "Great performances from Bethany Best and Hannah Hitchcock helped the team to victory but it was really great to see the team pull together and effectively get the job done".

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 15 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
