The Northland College women's basketball team traveled to Appleton, WI today for a non-conference matchup against the Lawrence University Vikings.
The LumberJills quickly got on the board and would control the game for the majority of the first quarter. However, a couple of Viking three-pointers would get them back into the game and allow them to go into the second quarter with a 17-13 lead over the Jills. Both teams would start out slow in the second quarter, but the Jills would be able to capitalize on Vikings' fouls allowing them to cut the Vikings' lead down to 1. Northland would tie up the game late in the second quarter, but Lawrence University would be able to finish the period with a 26-24 lead. The Vikings got out to a quick start in the third and managed to widen their lead by 7. The Jills would continue to battle throughout the quarter and were able to keep the Vikings within reach and the deficit down to two to end the quarter 39-37. The Jills would tie the game 29 seconds into the fourth quarter and wouldn't look back. Northland would outscore the Vikings 19-8 in the fourth quarter and would hold on to win 56-47.
Ashton Meadows led the Jills with 15 points, while Katherine Taylor and Emily Wagner finished the day with 14 points and 10 points respectively. Taylor led in assists with 3, followed by Meadows with 2.
The LumberJills will play on the road again tomorrow against St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN. The game is scheduled to begin at 2pm.
Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 15 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
