LumberJills Drop Match to Knights

Ashland, WI -

The LumberJills began conference play today against the Martin Luther College Knights at home.

The Knights would start the game off with a 5-0 run. However, the Jills would quickly catch up to get within one. They continued to battle throughout the first quarter and were able to tie it up at 8-8. The Jills would go on a 7-0 run to end the quarter and take a 15-8 lead into the second. The Knights got on the board first in the second, but the Jills would continue their offensive attack and regain their seven point lead. However, the Knights were able to string together key shots and retake the lead over the Jills 18-17. The Jills quickly regained the lead and would be able to maintain it for the remainder of the quarter, going into halftime up 25-22.

The Jills widened their lead early in the third quarter, but the Knights were once again able to jump back into the game and tie it up at 29-29. The teams kept each other close and gave up the lead multiple times throughout the quarter. However, it was once again the Jills that ended the quarter with the lead. The Knights retook the lead to start the fourth. A 7-0 run by the Knights would allow them to pull away from the Jills. Northland would chip away at the Knights' lead, but they would be unable to catch the Knights. The Jills would lose 54-47.

Katherine Taylor, Emily Howe, and Ashton Meadows all led with 9 points, while Autumn Wormet recorded 8. Meadows led with 3 assists.

The Jills will be back on the court 12/13 against the University of Wisconsin-Superior at home.

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 15 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
